Dr. Mustafa Baskaya is the Director of the Skull Base Surgery Program at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and an Associate Professor at the University's School of Medicine and Public Health. He has a strong and diverse background in both research and clinical care.
He specializes in surgery for cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cavernous angiomas and revascularization for stroke such as carotid endarterectomy, bypass surgery, complex brain tumors with deep locations (gliomas and metastatic tumors) and tumors of the skull base such as meningiomas, acoustic neuromas and pituitary adenomas. Dr. Baskaya also provides microsurgery of spinal cord tumors.
His neuroanatomical research interests include microsurgical and microvascular techniques and finding the safest pathways for the removal of vascular lesions (brain aneurysm and AVMs) and brain tumors. Recent research interests have centered on the use of mesenchymal stem cells to promote recovery from cerebral ischemia.
