GÖSTA NORLÉN was born on August 15, 1906. He studied at the Medical Faculty, University of Uppsala and at the Karolinska Institutet (M.D., 1944).

He was made Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm (1945); Chief of the Neurosurgical Clinic, Sahlgrenska Sjukhus, Gothenburg (1953); Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, University of Gothenburg (1953); and Professor of Neurosurgery, University of Gothenburg (1961).

He was an Honorary Member of: British Society of Neurological Surgeons; Societe de Neurochirurgie de Langue Francaise; Academia Lancisiana di Roma; the Society of Polish Neurosurgeons; and the Soviet Neurosurgical Society. He was a Corresponding Member of the Sociedade Brasileira de Neurochirurgia and the Societe Italiana di Neurochirurgia. He was a Foreign Member of the Finnish Medical Society, and a member of the Royal Academy of Science and Art in Gothenburg.

He was the author of over 50 medical articles. His particular interest was in intracranial aneurysms.

He was awarded the Croix d’or de mérite polognais and the RNO (Knight of the Order of the North Star). He died in 1992.
