Dr. Kevin Cockroft was born in the UnitedKingdom in 1966. He moved to the United States in 1981 and graduated from high school in Ridgewood, NJ in 1983. Dr. Cockroft went received his undergraduate education at The Johns Hopkins University, graduating with honors in Behavioral Biology in 1987. He earned his MD degree at Weill Cornell University Medical College in 1991. After a surgical internship and neurosurgical residency atthe New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Cockroft completed fellowship training in cerebrovascular microsurgery at Stanford University Medical Center. He then joined the staff of the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine as an assistant professor in 1998. While on the Penn State faculty, Dr. Cockroft participated in an NIH sponsored Clinical Scholars Program and received a Master of Science degree from Penn State University in Public Health Sciences. In 2003, Dr. Cockroft undertook a year’s sabbatical for intensive fellowship training in Endovascular Neurosurgery (Interventional Neuroradiology) at the Thomas Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience.

Currently, Dr. Cockroft serves as Director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Centerand Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He is also co-Director of the Penn State Hershey Stroke Center and Director of the Neurosurgery Department’s CAST certified Neuroendovascular Fellowship Training Program. Dr. Cockroft holds the academic rank of professor with joint appointments in Neurosurgery, Radiology and Public Health Sciences. Dr. Cockroft’s clinical practice focuses on the treatment of brain aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhage, as well as AVMs of the central nervous system and occlusive cerebrovascular disease.He is also active in neurovascular disease research. In the laboratory, he has studied the mechanism of cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. In addition, he directs ongoing clinical research on the diagnosis and treatment of intracranial aneurysms, cerebral vasospasm and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Dr. Cockroft is an author or co-author of numerous scholarly publications and he has been the principal investigator on several cerebrovascular disease clinical trials.

Dr. Cockroft is active in various professional societies. He is a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS). He has been a fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2003 and a fellow of the American Heart Association since 2008. He is currently the President of the Pennsylvania Neurosurgical Society (PNS) and serves on the executive council of the Joint Cerebrovascular Section of the AANS & CNS as well as the board of directors of the Intrasocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Carotid Stenting Facilities (IACCSF). He is vice-chair of the Joint Guidelines Committee of the AANS/CNS. In the past he has served in various capacities including Secretary/Treasurer for the PNS executive council and he was previously a member of the board of directors of the NeuroPoint Alliance (NPA).
