Judy Huang was born in 1969 in Taipei, Taiwan and moved to New York City in 1974. While at Hunter College High School, she was named a Westinghouse National Science Talent Search semifinalist. In 1991 she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from Brown University, graduating magna cum laude. She received her medical degree in 1995 from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her neurosurgery residency training was completed at the Neurological Institute of New York under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Solomon and Dr. Donald Quest. During residency, she pursued translational research on neuroprotection under the guidance of Dr. E. Sander Connolly, Jr.

Dr. Huang joined the Neurosurgery faculty of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine led by Dr. Henry Brem in 2002, and is now Professor, Vice Chair, and Residency Program Director. She also serves as the Fellowship Director for Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery and Co-Director of the Fellowship in Neuroplastic Surgery. Since 2015, she has been Director of Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. From 2007-2013 she served as Director of Neurosurgery Medical Student Education.

Dr. Huang’s clinical subspecialty practice is dedicated primarily to the microsurgical treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. Dr. Huang’ clinical research is focused upon arteriovenous malformations, intracerebral hemorrhage, and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Her bibliography includes more than 190 journal publications and book chapters.

Dr. Huang has received awards for research, teaching, and clinical excellence. These include Alpha Omega Alpha, the NREF Young Clinician Investigator Award, and the New York Neurosurgical Society Charles Elsberg Award. As a devoted educator, she has received a number of teaching awards, including the Otenasek Teaching Award from her residents. Her peers have voted her for inclusion in America’s Top Doctors. She has also been recognized for outstanding patient care with Patients’ Choice awards and induction into the Miller-Coulson Academy for Clinical Excellence. Her strong commitment to training has led her to mentor numerous undergraduates, medical students, neurosurgical trainees, faculty, and visiting neurosurgeons from around the world. She is often invited to lecture internationally, particularly throughout Taiwan and China.

In addition to her institutional service as Vice Chair of the Medical Board at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and member of the Professorial Promotions Committee, Dr. Huang has served on key committees of several national neurosurgical organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Society of Neurological Surgeons, and Joint Cerebrovascular Section of the AANS/CNS. She is an ABNS Examiner and past Secretary of the Neurosurgical Society of America. As the AANS liaison to the multidisciplinary Brain Attack Coalition and member of the Stroke Council, she has been involved with promoting standards of stroke care in the United States. She also serves on the editorials boards for both Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurosurgery.

Her longstanding hobbies center on travel and food.
