    Dr. Ketan R. Bulsara MD, MBA was born in Mumbai, India. The evening of his birth, his father immigrated to Lusaka, Zambia soon after it’s independence to work as an electrical engineer. His mother immigrated with him 6 months later. Due to political instability, his family immigrated to Seymour Texas in 1983. Working as cleaning crews in motels and convenient store clerks became the new norm for the family in the early days.

    At a young age, Dr. Bulsara attended Davidson College and became interested in Neurosurgery after spending time with Dr. Peter Jannetta through a Carnegie Mellon Fellowship. His interest was further fostered by Dr. Larry Rogers.
    During medical school and residency at Duke, Dr. Bulsara was greatly influenced by Dr. David Sabiston Jr., Dr. Robert Wilkins, and Dr. Allan Friedman. He established the first skull base dissection lab at the institution with Dr. Takanori Fukushima and Dr. Allan Friedman. Dr. Bulsara trained further with Dr. Ossama Al-Mefty. He was also greatly influenced by Professor Yasargil and Dr. Ali Krisht.
    He then served as the Walter Dandy Neurosurgical Intensive Care unit and served as the Director of Skull Base and Cerebrovascular neurosurgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia under the leadership of Dr. John Oro. He returned to Duke to add endovascular techniques to his armamentarium through endovascular training with Dr. Michael J. Alexander. Dr. Dennis Spencer at Yale then recruited him to serve as the Director of Neuroendovascular and Skull Base microsurgery. Over ten years he built very successful programs and was recruited to be Professor and Chief of Neurosurgery at the University of Connecticut. He is also the Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program and Director of Operating Room Quality. Dr. Bulsara also completed his MBA from the Yale School of Management.

    Dr. Bulsara has won numerous awards from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Bulsara has consistently been listed as one of the top physicians and surgeons in the United States by the Consumer Research Group of America based in Washington D.C..

    Dr. Bulsara is a frequently invited national and international lecturer. He has published 3 books and over 200 peer reviewed publications. He is past president of the American Association of South Asian Neurosurgeons. He has served on the AANS Maintenance of Certification/CME Committee and as Vice Chair for the AANS/CNS Cerebrovascular Section. He also serves on the National Quality Forum for neuroscience issues.

    He greatly enjoys spending time with his family. Nita, his wife, and him are proud parents of Karishma and Akshay. They treasure their family and friends and enjoy frequent hikes, tennis, and travelling.
