    Ciarán J. Powers is the Program Director and an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC). Dr. Powers was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Washington, DC. He earned his A.B. Degree cum laude in History and Science at Harvard College. He was a member of the Men's Varsity Crew at Harvard and after graduation was a member of the U.S. Men's National Rowing Team. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. Degrees at Georgetown University where he worked in the lab of Anton Wellstein. His graduate school research focused on tyrosine kinase signaling in glioblastoma multiforme.

    Dr. Powers did his Neurological Surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center under the guidance of Dr. Allan Friedman. He did his first year of Endovascular Neurosurgery training under Drs. Gavin Britz and Tony Smith at Duke. He did his second year of Endovascular Neurosurgery training under Drs. Beverly Aagaard-Kienitz and David Niemann at the University of WisconsinMadison. Dr. Powers has been on the teaching faculty at the OSUWMC since July 2010. He assumed the role of Program Director from Dr. Carole Miller in 2013. His practice focuses on open and endovascular treatment of structural cerebrovascular disease. He is the Surgical Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at OSUWMC. He is also the NeuroEndovascular Fellowship director. His clinical research has focused on treatments for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. His translational research has focused on changes in intracellular signaling pathways following subarachnoid hemorrhage.

    Together with his wife Vanessa, a board-certified general surgeon and neurointensivist, Dr. Powers is raising five healthy and happy young children in Columbus, Ohio
