  • Session 4: Hands-on Bedside Procedures

    This session will be hands-on. All residents will work independently through the 4 skill sets listed below with your local on-site instructor. We suggest finding an area or room where all residents can work together. If you do not have an on-site instructor, please work remotely with the faculty on Zoom.

    We encourage all programs to take a group photo at the end of this session and upload it below.

    Pre-Course Work:

    Please complete the Suture Workshop by clicking on the button below. This activity should be done on the evening of July 16.

    SUTURE WORKSHOP

    1. Equipment Needed:

      Each Intern will need the following equipment:
      Each Program will need the following equipment to be shared among all residents:
      • Needle Driver

      • Pickup

      • Scissors

      • Dura Repair

      • Pack of 4.0 Neurolon

      • Phone holder to record themselves

      • Gown and Gloves

      • Butterfly Needle

      • Skull Model

      • Spine Model

      • Shunt Valve

      • EVD Kit

      • ICP Monitoring Kit

      • LD Kit

      • Skull Model to pin if each individual resident doesn't have one

      • Perforator and one other drill bit (such as a matchstick or router)

       

       

       

       

      In-Class Topics to be Discussed:

      1. Glove and Gown for bedside procedure
      2. VP Shunt Tap and Valve Programming/Assessment
      3. Lumbar Puncture and Lumbar Drain/Assessment
      4. ICP Monitor/Assessment
      5. EVD Placement/Assessment
